Basil with Intention

A real Victory Voice Media track from the Humor & Everyday Victories collection.

I didn’t plant this on a whim
I chose every leaf like choosing kin
Thirty open pods, one clear plan
All basil, every kind I can

Not one-note, not all the same
Every plant earns its name
Some are green, some purple true
Different leaves, different things they do

This is basil with intention
Basil grown with thought and care
Not just cooking, not just garnish
Living medicine in the air

Sweet Genovese settles things down
Soft and steady, kitchen-sound
The kind you reach for slow and warm
When you want comfort, when you want home

Lemon basil lifts the gray
Brightens breath on heavier days
Clean and light, it clears the view
Sunshine you can smell right through

This is basil with intention
Every plant here has a role
I grow what supports the body
And feeds the spirit as a whole

Purple basil rich and deep
Color strong for what we keep
More than pretty, more than flair
There’s real support growing there

Thai basil brings a spark of fire
Wakes the gut, lifts the wire
Sharp and focused, bold and bright
Gets things moving, feels just right

Lime basil dances, crisp and clean
Everleaf lemon stays evergreen
Compact types, small but strong
Proof that mighty lasts long

Every pod knows why it’s here
Nothing random growing near

This is basil with intention
Chosen seed by seed by seed
Different gifts, different purposes
All growing what we need

Gardeners know when plants agree
You see it in vitality
Roots are happy, leaves respond
When the system lets them belong

Light and water, dialed just right
Thirty pods humming day and night

So yes, it’s nothing but basil here
But every kind has something to say
This isn’t extra, this is design
A garden grown the mindful way

I didn’t overdo it — I did it right
Thirty pods, one love: basil for life

Behind the story

Why this song exists

“Basil With Intention” exists because I freaking love basil. That's really where this starts. I had a MyGarden hydroponic system that I absolutely loved. Then another woman in the MyGarden gardening group was giving hers away. I went and got it. Suddenly I had two gardens. And I had a revelation: I can grow all the basil I want. So I did. A lot of basil. But if you're going to dedicate an entire hydroponic garden to basil, why grow only one kind? I had Genovese, lemon, purple, Thai, lime, compact varieties—different colors, aromas, flavors and uses. I had seeds, pods and a plan. At least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I called it “basil with intention” because technically it wasn't an obsession if every plant had a purpose. And I really did use it. I cook with basil. I love the smell of basil. I make a basil mojito that will kick your butt. Even my birds got in on it. My little lovebird Zip loves basil so much he'll happily mouth his way through an entire plant. The garden became something alive in the house that both the birds and I could enjoy. So yes. Thirty pods of basil may look excessive to some people. I prefer to call it commitment. The gardens aren't running right now, but they'll grow again. I still have the seeds. And when they do, the birds will be happy. I'll be happy. And there will almost certainly be way too much basil. With intention, of course.
