Read Lyrics Hide Lyrics
In the quiet of the night when the breath runs thin,
When the body feels heavy and the dark closes in,
There’s a spark in the system, a light that won’t fade—
An endocannabinoid rhythm that the Creator made.
From the wisdom of the fighters who’ve walked all these years,
To the caregivers standing strong through the weight of the fear,
There’s a circle of hands, holding steady and clear—
You are never alone. Hope lives here.

Cathy Jordan lit a fire that refused to go out,
Thirty-eight years of survival turned the silence to shout.
Her story carved a pathway where the truth could be seen,
Where a healer reverse-engineered what her strength might mean.
So I follow that lineage with a promise I bear—
To protect, to uplift, to stay humble and aware.
Every warrior, every caregiver fighting through tears—
You are safe in this circle. Hope lives here.

Hope lives here—let the heartbeat rise.
Feel the healing rhythm lifting tired eyes.
We rise as one, through the pain and the fear,
In the ALS Comfort Network—hope lives here.
Hope lives here—where the light breaks through.
Where the body remembers what it still can do.
Take my hand, my vow is clear:
You are loved, you are held. Hope lives here.

You’ve been pushed, you’ve been broken, you’ve been written off wrong,
But the system inside you still remembers its song.
There is healing in the breath, there is power in the floor,
There is life in the rhythm finding power once more.
And the caregivers—oh God, how they carry the load—
Loving fiercely while the world turns its eyes from the road.
But I see you. I hear you. And your courage rings clear—
You belong in this family. Hope lives here.

When the storm hits hard and the nights feel long,
When you question your body or the strength of your song,
When you’re shaken, forsaken, on the edge of the fight—
Let my voice be the lantern pulling you back into light.
We are warriors, together, rewriting the end,
Every breath is a promise, every small win a mend.
From your cells to your spirit, let the way become clear—
We rise, we return.

And as long as I breathe, I will stand right here—
With my warriors, my family… Hope lives here.

Behind the story

Why this song exists

“Hope Lives Here” was written as an anthem for the ALS Comfort Network during a chapter of my life when I was deeply committed to helping people with ALS and the caregivers walking beside them. By then, caregiving had been part of my life for many years. I knew how heavy it could become. I knew what it meant to sit beside someone frightened by what their body was doing. I knew what caregivers carried when everyone else went home. And I knew how desperately families could search for one more possibility when conventional answers weren't enough. Part of the inspiration came from my friend Cathy Jordan. I had known Cathy through cannabis advocacy in Florida and had worked with her organization/board efforts at different times. I respected her then. It wasn't until later, after I became deeply involved with ALS myself, that I fully understood just how extraordinary her story was. Cathy lived with ALS for decades. Once I understood what that meant, her survival took on an entirely different significance for me. I began asking questions. A lot of questions. I spent years studying ALS, caregiving, cannabis and the human endocannabinoid system. I built extensive maps trying to reverse-engineer the disease—not because I believed I possessed some magical cure, but because I wanted to understand what was happening, where different systems intersected, and whether that understanding could help people live more comfortably or give families better questions to ask. That's the “healer” in the song. Me. “Hope Lives Here” came out of that work and out of what I wanted the ALS Comfort Network to represent. Not a promise of a cure. A promise that people would be seen. Patients mattered. Caregivers mattered. Questions mattered. Small victories mattered. And nobody walking through something this frightening should feel like they had to walk through it completely alone. My relationship with the ALS community has changed since I wrote this song. I eventually stepped away from operating the ALS Comfort Network as an active outreach effort after experiences that were personally and financially devastating. But I won't rewrite what I felt when I wrote “Hope Lives Here.” I meant every word. The compassion was real. The work was real. The people I cared for were real. And Cathy Jordan's extraordinary life remains part of the reason I kept asking questions. Today, I'm building a different chapter of my life. But this song gets to keep the truth of that one. At the time I wrote it, this was my promise: You are seen. You are held. You are not alone. Hope lives here.
