Bone Haulers of Emera

A fun song about Hiedi’s two dogs, Sonny and Pippi - a brother and sister adopted in 2019 from Miami Animal Rescue. Super smart and complete dog treat junkies - they take their treat from the concierge desk, into elevator, down the. Hall, and into the house to their beds to enjoy their bones. They walk together on a single lead - no human required to hold, just for brakes! Please, adopt , don’t shop. Sonny and Pippi have been absolute blessings! Thank you Miami Animal Rescue!

Sunny and Pippi on a mission every night,
Trotting through the lobby like they own the building’s lights.
Front desk stash waiting, concierge on deck—
“Sit, my babies,” Mama says, “you know what’s coming next.”

Two little dog bones, one for him and one for her,
He grabs his like a champ, she prances with a purr.
Ride up to the eighth floor, tails wagging proud,
They never take a bite till they’re home— that’s the rule, that’s the vow.

They’re the bone haulers of Emera,
Through four apartments, they still know the way.
Across the street or across the halls,
Those dog bones always make it home every day.
Sunny and Pippi—little legends in the elevators,
Bone haulers, baby—homebound navigators.

Six years running and the ritual stays strong,
New units, new views, but the routine never wrong.
Neighbors cheer them on, “Look who’s working tonight!”
Two tiny workers carrying bones with all their might.

Good pups outside, doing business like pros,
Mama with the bags because that’s just how it goes.
And folks hand out treats ’cause everybody knows—
These two little angels melt hearts wherever they go.

They’re the bone haulers of Emera,
Through four apartments, they still know the way.
Across the street or across the halls,
Those dog bones always make it home every day.
Sunny and Pippi—little legends in the elevators,
Bone haulers, baby—homebound navigators.

From Building B to E, from second floor to eight,
They carried every treasure like the lobby’s little freight.
You can change the unit, rearrange the whole place—
But they’ll still march home with that bone in their face.

They’re the bone haulers of Emera,
Tiny paws on a nightly parade.
Front desk treats to the penthouse skies,
They’re the champs of the long hallway crusade.
Sunny the gentleman, Pippi the princess storyteller—
Bone haulers forever—
Mama’s perfect little dwellers.

Behind the story

Why this song exists

“Bone Haulers of Emera” exists because Sunny and Pippi figured out the system. And once they figured it out, there was no going back. The staff at Emera always saved bones for the dogs. Rick especially helped perpetuate the whole operation. He would make sure there were bones waiting, and after Sunny and Pippi left, he'd even hide extras so there would always be another bone available for the next trip. The animals were part of the community there. Even my Quaker parrot, Punky Beakster, got special treatment. When Punky traveled around with me before she became such a strong flyer, Rick kept seeds in a drawer because he was determined to make friends with her. That's just the kind of people they were. Sunny and Pippi developed their own routine. My little dogs walk independently. They're connected to each other by a twelve-foot lead, so I don't normally have to hold onto them. If I need them to stop, I step on the lead like a brake. But when we got into the elevator at Emera, I'd take their lead off. They knew what came next. Bones. As soon as those elevator doors opened, they were off. Down the hallway they'd go, each hauling a bone home like they'd just completed the most important delivery of the day. Then they'd get to our door and wait. They wouldn't eat the bones in the hallway. They wouldn't stop halfway home. The mission wasn't complete until they were inside. Only then could the Bone Haulers enjoy their cargo. It became one of those silly little routines that doesn't sound important until you realize how much happiness was wrapped up in it. The dogs loved it. The staff encouraged it. I loved watching it. And everybody knew the routine. That's why “Bone Haulers of Emera” exists. Because sometimes the stories worth saving aren't the enormous moments. Sometimes they're two little dogs flying out of an elevator, proudly hauling their bones home while an entire building helps keep the operation running.
